Wanted! - 1989 Fleer

FYI - I already have a complete 1989 Fleer set.  However, I'm just 5 cards short of finishing off a second set, which would make for a excellent present for my son!  Yet, I'm not really wanting these cards, if you know what I mean.

81 - Wade Boggs 164 - Barry Larkin 426 - Mark Grace

548 - Ken Griffey, Jr.

So You Think You're a Collector - Ultra Edition Answer Key

Pencils down.  Pass your papers to the front of the class...

Hmm, ouch, nary a bonafide Ultra Collector in the blogosphere.  However, I will tip my hat to hiflew for giving it the old college try.  Even the "teacher" can't figure out the answer to this test.  Thank you Standard Catalog of Baseball Cards!

Here is the crib: B, J, L, N, P, E, Q, O, M, K, I, G, D, A, C, F, H

A - 2004 B - 1991 C - 2005 D - 2003
E - 1996 F - 2006 G - 2002 H - 2007
I - 2001 J - 1992 K - 2000 L - 1993
M - 1999 N - 1994 O - 1998 P - 1995

Q - 1997

Miami is First in Something!

First team knocked out of the tournament that is!  The Dime Box Braves finally closed the door on the Coot Veal and the Vealtones' Marlins this past weekend, securing their spot in the second round.

Several teams are poised to be eliminated in the next few days (Astros, Rays, Cubs, Phillies), and the second round bracket should be filled by weeks end.  Be sure to check in each morning to see if your team makes it one step closer to the Championship!

UPDATED: May 3, 2013
Marlins (Coot Veal and the Vealtones), Astros (The Daily Dimwit), Rays (Horny Thorny), Blue Jays (Chipp n' Dale), Angels (The Lost Collector) and Cubs (Cardboard Conundrum) have been eliminated.

So You Think You're a Collector? - Ultra Edition

Well, the last edition of this quiz was pretty much a failure.  Either I had an off day, or people just don't care about Leaf.  I think the latter is most likely.  While I thought the Leaf quiz was hard, I think this one is near impossible.  If someone manages to get all of these correct without cheating (i.e., using the internet or a price guide...Baseballdad) I will be truly impressed.

That said, your task is to put the cards in order by year WITHOUT cheating.  Your answer will be a string of letters starting with 1991's letter and ending with 2007's letter.  Winner gets bragging rights as a true Ultra Collector...

A Simple Question

If someone approached you and offered you $10 for a big box of your Junk Wax (1986-1994), would you:

A. Jump on that sweet deal immediately.
B. Politely decline.
C. Go on a trolling, bitch-rant tirade about how the buyer is preying on people, and is a "loser."  Threaten to "report" the buyer, and then brag about how you sell your Junk Wax for $50 a box, which to me seems a hell lot more like "preying on people" than offering $10 to buy it.

I'm pretty sure you can tell my experience.

I loathe Craigslist.

Listia Loot

Since I've defined where I am going with my vintage collecting, I have been having more fun than I thought possible.  I feel freer than I've ever felt in regards to cards.  With that freedom and about 2,000 points in my Listia account, I decided to do some sniping.

Now before anyone rags on me for sniping an auction, remember, this is Listia.  It's imaginary money.  Anyways, after some sleuthing last night, I stumbled across a whole bunch of 1970 Topps auctions last night, and each auction featured 3 to 5 cards from a specific team.

This was a great find, but the problem was that each auction had about 2 minutes left.  So, I quickly ignored all of life's responsibilities, sat down on the toilet lid and got out my sniper scope.  Two auctions caught my eye because they had players from my Want Lists, Darold Knowles and Jim Kaat.

After a few minutes, I was the proud owner of nine 1970 Topps cards for a mere 1,065 points.  Not bad, considering I'll most likely toss 7 of those cards right back up on Listia... unless someone makes me an offer!

Here's the loot.  The Kaat and Knowles are staying in my closet, but the other seven are up for trade before they go back on the Listia auction block...

If you're interested in any/all of these cards, check out my Topps want lists to see what players I'm collecting!

2013 MLB Tournament - Week #3 Update

I'm on the road, so no time for quips and comments.  I hope your team is doing well, or at least better than the Padres...
